2025 Flu Vaccinations Starting Early Sept 2025
Flu vaccines are designed to protect against the main flu viruses that research and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) suggest will be the most common during the upcoming season. Three kinds of flu viruses commonly circulate among people today: influenza A (H1N1) viruses, influenza A (H3N2) viruses, and influenza B viruses. Trivalent flu vaccines are formulated to protect against three flu viruses (an A(H1N1) virus, an A(H3N2) virus, and a B/Victoria virus).
Our 2025-2026 high dose influenza trivalent, preservative free, vaccine, recommended only for patients age 65 and over. The high dose vaccine contains four times the amount of antigen (the part of the vaccine that prompts the body to make antibody) contained in regular flu shots. The additional antigen is intended to create a stronger immune response (more antibody) in the person getting the vaccine. The high dose vaccine is made to protect against the following three viruses:
- an A/Victoria/4897/2022 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus;
- an A/Croatia/10136RV/2023 (H3N2)-like virus; and
- a B/Austria/1359417/2021 (B/Victoria lineage)-like virus.
Our 2025-2026 Flublok trivalent, preservative free, egg free (recombinant protein based) vaccine, now recommended for all patients over age 18 including pregnant patients and those age 65 and over. The Flublok vaccine contains three times the amount of antigen (the part of the vaccine that prompts the body to make antibody) contained in regular flu shots. The additional antigen is intended to create a stronger immune response (more antibody) in the person getting the vaccine. Flublok is made to protect against the following three viruses:
- an A/Wisconsin/67/2022 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus;
- an A/District of Columbia/27/2023 (H3N2)-like virus; and
- a B/Austria/1359417/2021 (B/Victoria lineage)-like virus.
Our 2025-2026 Fluzone trivalent, preservative free, vaccine for those patients under age 65, including pregnant patients, is, made to protect against:
- an A/Victoria/4897/2022 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus;
- an A/Croatia/10136RV/2023 (H3N2)-like virus; and
- a B/Austria/1359417/2021 (B/Victoria lineage)-like virus.
